The Stink Bug Crawl

Okay! So it seems like I'm always waiting on something to maintain my orderly blog! Before it was the scanner, now it's a firewire chord so that I can upload some video of my cute Linc and how he gets around!

He has the cutest crawl, just like a stink bug with his butt up in the air. When he first started crawling he would put his right knee down, but not his left. Now he he just crawls on his hands and feet - maybe because of our tile??? Either way, it's super cute and he's super fast! Here's a few pics of the stink bug crawl!

I'm going to miss this little unique crawl! As of the last week Linc gets around by walking! Stay tuned for some video of the stink bug crawl, our little walker, and a few other cute things "Binkers" does!

Carlsbad 1/2 marathon, January 25, 2009

Woo Hoo! We finally got the scanner working so now I can go back to being OCD and blogging in order!

On the weekend of January 25, I had one of the best getaways yet! It all started with a desire I have to run the New York City Marathon, which is the first weekend in November. A few years ago I tried to register, along with 90,000 others, and was not chosen from the lottery...bummer! This year I found out that you can qualify for guaranteed entry by running a marathon or half marathon in a sex/age required time! Once I learned you could qualify, the lottery sounded boring and I was up for the challenge. So I started hitting the speedwork hard and began looking for half marathon to run in under 1:37!! In some ways that goal seemed do-able and in others it seemed impossible. When it came right down it, I knew I needed to average a 7:24 pace, which is just a bit out of my comfort zone! I was very nervous!

A friend of mine told me of a group of girls going to Carlsbad at the end of January to run and stay in a beach house. A girls trip in tank top weather sounded ideal!! So I made a phone call to see if they had room for me, or as Tyler pointed out - I invited myself along!

After a week of a sick baby and very needy children, I was so ready for my girls weekend! The other girls were really fun and friendly and I felt totally comfortable and able to be myself around them. The day before the race we went to the race expo and then spent the afternoon shopping in the little shops around the beach house in Huntington. One of my favorite parts of the whole trip was sitting on the pier above the ocean, by myself, and reading my book while I waited for my to-go carbo load dinner to be made by the restaurant.

Race day was ideal!! It was overcast with temperatures in the 60's. And all that ocean air made it so easy to breathe! I had signed up to run with a pacer, Luke, whose goal was 1:35, that way I had a minute or two to spare. Luke would run ahead and then come back. I figured out early on that if I just checked my pace and ran what felt good I'd be better off than if I tried to keep up with him. I started out feeling really good! Everytime I checked my pace I was around a 7:10 or faster and I was feeling really comfortable. I was just loving my music, the air, the scenery, and experiencing total running bliss! This picture was taken at the top of a pretty decent hill right before the half-way point where you made a sharp left u-turn and started heading back on the other side of the road! A little after the turn around I had to start fighting a little harder. Everytime I checked my pace I'd be closer to 7:30 and would have to kick it up a notch. Then I started getting some stomach cramping that just made it feel like more of a fight to stay strong. At mile 9 I had 32 minutes to go - "keep it under 8 minutes miles and I'm golden." At mile 11 I had 17 minutes, that's when I knew I had it, I just had to finish and I was really ready to be done! I crossed the finish line with an official time of 1:36:01! It wasn't easy, which made it feel like even more of an accomplishment-and this stay at home mom needs those every once in a while!

These are the fun girls I traveled with. Kelli Hustead, Debbie Zockoll, and Brenda Graff! These ladies all ran the full marathon. The brown patio in the background was the beachhouse we stayed in and the ocean was just across the parking lot to my left! Thanks for an amazing weekend girls.

When I got back I saw these posters my awesome kids had made for me! The girls did the one on the door and Cam did the one on the wall! What cuties huh!

Cam's Baptism January 31, 2009

Okay....sorry I'm a little behind! A whole month actually! I have an issue about doing things in order and I've been waiting on a picture from a race I did a week before the baptism. I finally got it but I can't get my scanner to work so I'm getting over my obsessive compulsiveness and skipping it, for now, but hopefully I'll get it on soon because it's a sweet pic-ocean in the background and everything!

So, Clark and Kassie, again I apologize, I know you've been wanting to see these pictures for a while! First let me say how much we missed you at the baptism, it just wasn't the same without you!

But it was an amazing day! Cam was super excited and after a months worth of family nights on the 4th article of faith we hope he was prepared! He got to help his dad demonstrate baptism in the meeting with all the other kids before the baptism started. During the program all the kids sang "I am a child of God" which was Cam's favorite part.

He was the only child from our ward to be baptized that night, which was probably a good thing because our family took up the entire relief society room. Grandpa Hafen and Uncle Eric were the witnesses and Cam did it right the first time!!

We then went to the primary room to have Cam confirmed and had a short testimony meeting! It was really neat, I loved watching Ty get down on his knee and bear his testimony right to Cameron about the how the holy ghost can always help him.

We had a fun dinner in the cultural hall following the confirmation! We are so lucky to have so many of our family in St. George. We appreciate them all for coming and supporting Cam on his big day...and for all bringing something yummy for our dinner! What a great day! P.S. I made Morgan's blog private after about only one day when a random seductive looking girl from singapore made a comment about how cute lincoln was. If I haven't sent you an invite to it let me know and I will. Keep the comments coming on her blog, she loves them and looks for them everyday!!! And I love to see her get excited when she gets one!

Cameron's 8th Birthday

This year for Cameron's 8th birthday he got to go to Disneyland! Ty had a little business to do in So Cal so he decided to take Cam, and Daxton, and Sam and make it a birthday trip -did you know you get into Disneyland free on your birthday this year?

They had so much fun! Cam loved it and was even ok with not having a party!

Once they got home we had a little family present party! Cam got a wave board and some Tinker Toys... But Ty has had more fun with the Tinker toys than the kids have! - really, he plays with them by himself when the kids go to bed, he's made some pretty cool things though!

Linc's first hair cut!

So, I admit I'm a little behind on my blogging but am trying to catch up. Better late than never right! This Post is Linc's first haircut which happened on January 4, 2009. His FoHawk was getting a little long so it was time for the first trim! It grows pretty fast. In fact, he's already had another haircut - this morning (it's a great Sunday morning activity). He's had such great hair since he was born. I remember trying to take pictures of the back of his head when he was a baby because I thought it was such a perfect little head with such a perfect little hairline! Ty cuts his and the boys hair with what is called a Flowbee! It's pretty sweet - even though I believe it is intended for dogs! It hooks up to the central vac hose so no clean up and you can put it on different length settings so it works kinda like clippers!

Christmas Day

Christmas Eve we have the same tradition as everyone else! Pajamas! This year the kids got Character jammies and matching slippers...Hannah Montanna, Spiderman, Disney Princesses, and Cars!Christmas morning the kids have to wait on the stair landing for the ok to come up and see what Santa Brought! This year they thought Grandma and Grandpa Hafen took way to long to get there. Ten minutes is a long time on Christmas morning!Santa got really wrap happy this year and decided to wrap everything...down to the packs of bubble tape in the stockings-and Cam's new bike too! It was pretty fun and made the morning last a little longer...by maybe 5 minutes! Lincoln got a new rocking horse! Cam got a new bike and helmet! Ty made him a jump and he had a blast, even out in the cold! As he would ride his bike up the street to his runway, Ty would try to hit him with a snowball made from what's left of our skiier snowman!
Even Morgan tried to hit the jump! She didn't get a lot of air-her bike is very heavy..really!-
but look at her cute outfit and boots!

Lainee got some fun toys for her magnet board and lots of barbie stuff!!

Santa brought her an ipod and decorations for her room!

Ya gotta love a baby right out of the bathtub with his Grandma in her Christmas Sweater! What a great Christmas!!!

Some other highlights of Christmas were dinner at kami's house! We do soups on Christmas Eve! We missed Clark and Kassie and our newlyweds but had lots of fun! Christmas morning Eric and Kim came over for waffles...Christmas breakfast we started last year and I'm really liking it! We had a turkey dinner/lunch at my mom's and went to a movie in the evening! Are my highlights all about food?? Sounds like me...Merry Christmas!
